Homemade Tea Bags
Something you see pop up often on forums for trail cooking is making tea bags for coffee and tea use. While one can find fillable tea bags on the market, they are not commonly found in grocery stores, and are not exactly cheap. For less than half the price, if you have a sewing machine you can easily make all the disposable tea and coffee bags your heart could desire for trail adventures! Preferably you will want to use unbleached coffee filters, and you can find organic cotton thread now at many fabric stores (it is usually aimed at quilters).
You will need:
A box of small cone filters. Size 1 or 2 works best.
Sewing machine and cotton thread.
Loose leaf tea or coffee ground to texture you prefer.
Directions:
For each bag, take one coffee filter cone, and put the amount of tea or coffee you prefer into it, at the bottom of the cone. Sew across the top, backstitching both ends. Trim threads or knot. If you leave the threads at one end you can make a "tail" for your bag. Cut off the excess top of the cone.
And there you have your tea bags!
